I lived in Tokyo for a period of months in 1992, doing a stint on business exchange. I have been back since then on two occasions for expositions and some R&R time.

This is an intense time. My thoughts go out to the people I knew there, know there, and their families, friends, and lives, now at such a perilous moment. There is little we can do individually, but hopefully there will be opportunity to contribute to the survival and recovery as time moves on.

Interestingly, last night our national TV nightly newscaster ABC (Australian Broadcasting Commission) here in Australia, chose a small fishing village to highlight the devastation of the earthquake and it's aftermath. The village they chose was Ofunato.
