Adobe Touch Apps
Quietly, almost at a whisper level, Adobe announced a new suite of Android and iPad tablets apps last week that are worth a look. Called the Adobe Touch apps, there are 6 apps that bring creative idea capture, brainstorm, and sketching to the tablet world. Very interesting. A bold move that embraces the tablet format as a serious tool in the creative process. I have no idea whether or not they'll gain traction and be successful, but they are worth knowing about.
The 6 apps are:
- Adobe Collage (moodboards)
- Adobe Debut (presentation)
- Adobe Ideas (Illustrator-type tool)
- Adobe Kuler (color family selection and creation)
- Adobe Photoshop Touch (images)
- Adobe Proto (web design and layout)
The idea with these is that creativity can strike anywhere and your tablet can be a tool to start that process even while you are out and about. Go watch the videos on the Adobe site for an overview. I've looked at the videos, but not taken the plunge yet on any of them. If I do, I'll keep you posted on my first impressions. At $10 apiece, I guess it's worth thinking through whether or not they will really be useful or just a curiosity.
BTW, the above links are to the Android versions, all of which are available now in the Android Market. iOS versions are being rolled out later, I guess. There are "Notify Me" buttons on all but Adobe Ideas.
These are designed to work hand-in-hand with the Adobe Creative Cloud.
Looks to me like Adobe thinks tablets are here to stay.
